Second Ultrasound?

I'll just start off by saying I know this is silly of me and I am just hoping the baby, boy or girl, will just be healthy in the end. Ok now for my question.

My doctor messed up my due date and sent me in for my ultrasound to early. At 19 weeks we were told we we're having a girl. Then the tech started thinking it was a boy. So at the end of the appt we left with a 90% chance of having a girl. Most of out stuff we have registered for or purchased is unisex but I keep having nightmares that the car seat and clothes and other stuff is girly and we're gonna pop out a boy and not have any receipts or be able to afford to take a loss on what we have received and purchase boy stuff. I keep having nightmares that we will have a boy and he will have to wear pink onesies and ride in a pink and brown car sear. So my question is.....

How can I convience my doctor to give me another ultrasound?? I am 25 weeks along. Thanks a ton!!!!!

  1. Well you can have elective ultrasounds, but you have to pay, insurance won't cover it. But if your willing to pay I would suggest going to a place to get a 3D one done. They are very neat and very accurate on sexing.

  2. Well...honestly, I'm not sure how you can convince your doc to give you another ultrasound if he/she doesn't feel that it is medically warranted (insurance companies aren't too keen on paying for extra tests that aren't medically indicated).  But I can tell you this, if you do end up with onsies and such of the wrong color the size won't fit too long.  Babies grow SO fast.  And if the colors and such do turn out wrong and you just can't bear to use them....sell away on Ebay.  Baby items, especially new in the package sell like hotcakes.  Then you can use your earnings to buy things that you like that suit the s*x of your baby.  One healthy baby headed your way!  Congratulations!

  3. It has nothing to do with convincing your doctor.

Your insurance isn't going to pay for it.  If you really have to have a procedure that your baby does NOT need, then you can go somewhere and pay for an ultrasound yourself.  Research ultrasounds on Google.  They are NOT 100% safe and do affect the baby.

  4. I had an Ultrasound at 12 weeks and then again at 20.  My next US is scheduled for 32 weeks.  If you want one that badly you'll probably have to end up paying out of pocket.  I know it is fustrating when you want to know so badly what you're having, but if most of your baby registry is Unisex anyway you could wait until your next ultrasound even though it would be a definate piece of mind for mom and dad to be. You can always add on the pink or blue items at the end if necessary.  Good luck

  5. I had an ultrasound at 16 weeks, and the tech said she thought it was a boy but wasnt 100% sure. I asked my doctor every appointment when I could have another ultrasound b/c I wanted to know for sure what it was going to be. He didnt give me one till 28 weeks!!! I was about to go crazy. She was right it was a boy, but the wait was awful. I dont think othere then asking your doctor, or paying to have one done, there isnt anything else to do. You will get another ultrasound before you deliever it just might be a few more weeks. Good Luck!

  6. I had an ultrasound at 19 weeks with both my kids and both times the tech was correct.  My first was a girl and my second was a boy.

There are many elective ultrasound places that do both 3D and 2D.  They also offer 2D just to verify the gender.  If you want another ultrasound, I think you are better off going that route because typically insurance only covers one OB ultrasound.

    Good Luck!

  7. Just ask your doctor if at your next appointment you can have one done.

  8. You cannot, and should not, convince your doctor to do this.

The point of the 20 week ultrasound is to check for anatomical abnomalities and problems.  If everything checked out normally, there is NO reason to have another.

If you really want to find out the s*x, you will need to pay for it yourself. (Your insurance isn't there to help you with your shopping, but to pay for medically necessary tests/treatments.) You can try offering to pay out-of-pocket at your regular OB, or go a commercial ultrasound studio.
