Second annual Hornbeck Hillbilly Hoopla wraps up at Trollhaugen Ski Area this weekend
Professional skiers Mike Hornbeck and Ahmet Dadali hosted the second annual Hornbeck Hillbilly Hoopla ski camp at the Trollhaugen Ski Area in Dresser, Wisconsin, from December 31 – January 2.
The camp was originally going to be held in the Backyard at Summit Boardshop in Lake Elmo Minnesota, the same place where the first edition of the camp had been held, but the warm weather forced the organisers to move its location to Trollhaugen Ski Area.
Despite the change in location, a number of young skiers attended the camp to up their rail skills under the lead of Hornbeck and Dadali.
The camp lasted for three days and saw the two professional skiers provide coaching services to the groms, primarily focusing on building and enhancing their rail skills with the intention of taking them to a level where they would be sliding rails like
professionals.
The 24-year-old Hornbeck was pretty impressed with the progress the young skiers had made in such a little time. Talking to a reporter from the leading sports network ESPN, the Minnesota-based skier said, “It's amazing to see kids that learned how to slide
a rail at last year's camp come back this year and are killing it.”
The 23-year-old Dadali was also pretty satisfied with the impact that the camp had made and the rapid progression that the kids were making. The Colorado-based skier has been forced out of competitions due to a knee injury, which has given him plenty of
time to offer sideline coaching.
The fee for the three-day camp was $199. While the amount may seem a bit high on first look, the campers claim that they got their money’s worth. Not only did they get superb training from the professional skiers, they also get an opportunity to earn prizes
and take home free swags.
The Hornbeck Hillbilly Hoopla, along with Teton Gravity Research’s (TGR) new Fall Line camp in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, made the beginning of 2012 pretty exciting for the groms. However, the spotlight is expected to shift back to the professional skiers and
snowboarders soon with the Winter X Games 16 and the second stop of Winter Dew Tour, Pantech Invitational, just around the corner.
