Question:

Second bike choice?

Hi. Earlier this year, I successfully completed the MSF course. Upon "graduation", I hopped on a Kawasaki ZX6R, and have been riding it without any real troubles all summer long. I have seriously been thinking about buying a new bike next year, and was wondering if a Hayabusa would be right for me...

Ok. I know what you're thinking, that I'm just another speed devil who wants a busa. Wrong. I love to ride, and to feel the freedom and enjoyment of riding. The power of the ZX6R was astounding at first, but with a serious grip on my mind, I found it easier and easier to control, until now I have in practice near everything the MSF can teach you. I feel confident in my ability to ride a bike safely, and do not wish to do stunts or show off. The busa was my initial choice due to the fact that I love everything about it. The 6R is a little uncomfortable for longer distances (I'm 6"4), and the busa is a whole lot more comfortable. Continued below.

  1. it seems to me you already are going to move up to the "Busa..... why ask us. are you just looking to be talked out of it... well, you asked for it.....

Honestly, a whole few months and you have mastered everything the MSF taught you on a zx6r. PLEASE. that bike is so far above your skills that I really must sit here and chuckle. I understand that you, being 6'4" should get a bigger bike..... but really, how many miles have you put on the zx6r? It's not about feeling confident enough to get the bigger bike... it's just you want the biggest, baddest bike out there.... again, please. the busa is like 3 times as fast and powerful than a zx6r.... the only part of your question that makes sense is you need a bigger bike because of your size..... forget all that c**p about how your comfortable, and you've learned everything the MSF can teach you, blah, blah, blah. the "busa is too much, you'll get yourself into trouble, but as I said, you've already made up your mind, so why ask???

I learned the hard way so I'm not just busting your balls here. I had ridden a 400 for a year and then I got a Vmax..... went through the course and everything.... but just once, I didn't respect the power.... just once....... head on into a van. I was ok, didn't walk right for a while, the bike was totalled..... but all it took was that once. you can say.... oh, I know, I respect the power..... but it'll get ya...... mark my words.

but, hey, good luck with that busa.....

(i told ya, you asked for it, and there it was.)

  2. Most of the guys here seem to want to START OUT on a 'Busa, and work up from there!

If you've been riding a ZX6R for a few months with no trouble, you probably could handle a 'Busa.   Be aware that it's quite a bit heaver, and that would take some getting used to.

A 'Busa has enough power to really get you into trouble.  But you don't have to use all that power. Actually you don't have many opportunities to go 180 mph.  The ZX is a pretty zippy bike, and if you haven't killed anyone on that you could probably handle the 'Busa.

I don't know how much more comfortable a Hayabusa would be.  At 6'4" you must have looked funny on the ZX!  Like the bear in the circus riding the little tiny bicycle! 8^)

  3. You should probably spend more time with the ZX6R to learn how to do more than what you learned in MSF.  The bike you choose should be tailored around the kind of riding you do.  If you are making longer and faster trips where the 6R is getting stressed out, that would be good reason to upgrade.

The real excitement of a ride is not what you ride, but how well you ride.

  4. If I were you and just had to have a bigger bike, I would go with the ZX14 they are more comfortable and easier to ride not to mention they are also faster  if that is what you want. Kawasaki's tend to be much more people friendly than a Busa.

  5. I bet the Busa is more uncomfortable than the zx6r. I'm 6' 3" and found the Suzuki's pegs way too high and forward. I also think the busa is kind of a pig, any  comparable rider would whoop the busa on a curvy road with the 6r. That being said, if you want it get it, although I think wanting it is more of an ego thing rather than you've mastered the 600.
