English Premier League giants Chelsea have lost out on one of their many summer transfer window targets, Javier Pastore, to Ligue 1 outfit http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paris-Saint-Germain-FC-c40181. The 22-year-old Palermo midfielder has snubbed the London side to join PSG after a period of uncertainty where he was linked heavily with both sides as his future hung in the balance.

However, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Argentina-c2841 international seems to have made up his mind about where he wants to play and surprisingly he has agreed terms with the French side. PSG have reportedly paid a fee of £37 million to secure the services of the young Argentine playmaker, who will be joining them shortly after he gets past the medical and other minor details.

Pastore confirmed the news on his official website:

“You can officially say that I will be a Paris St Germain player, although I still need to do the medical and review some details.

I want to be a part of Paris St Germain, which is a great club with a great history.”

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas will understandably be a little disappointed at having lost his back-up option, since he had Pastore lined-up in case the Blues were unable to secure the services of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857. The 25-year-old Croatian is currently number one priority for Chelsea and the Blues have already had two bids rejected for him by the Spurs.

With Pastore having made it clear he does not wish to play for the London sides, the Blues will now turn all their attention on trying to acquire Modric. Chelsea could be making a third improved bid of £30 million for Modric, who has made it perfectly clear he wishes to leave White Hart Lane for a dream move to Stamford Bridge.

The only thing Modric has failed to do is hand in a transfer request, which the player claimed was out of respect for the club and the supporters. The club chairman http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Croatia-c2879 international leave for any price.

However, there is still another month until the transfer window closes and Chelsea show no signs of stepping down with their efforts of convincing Tottenham Hotspur to let their prized midfielder go. The fact that Pastore has signed with PSG will further strengthen the Blues’ resolve to sign their first choice midfield target ahead of the new season.

Pastore claimed he had moved to PSG for the chance of helping the French outfit win trophies, the League and local cup competitions. Pastore said he was looking forward to giving his best for his new side and was looking forward to the new season. Pastore said:

“Winning the local tournament and the cup - I want the team to succeed in everything.

In particular I will give my best in every game. It makes me immensely happy that they trusted me.”

What Pastore does not realize is that while PSG definitely have history, the club have been well below par over the past seasons. The last time PSG won the Ligue 1 was in 1994, while they finished runners-up for the domestic league in 2004. They have increased their spending in the transfer window in an attempt to regain their status as a top side, but we have seen from the past that money does not guarantee silverware.

Pastore may very well have made the worst decision in his career by choosing to leave Palermo for PSG instead of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. The Blues will not be too affected by his decision since they also have a lot of money to spend and a lot more players they have listed as their targets for this transfer window.

Pastore 0-1 Chelsea.
