Second cycle of chemotherapy complete: Yuvraj Singh – Cricket News Update
India’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yuvraj-Singh-c98364, who is currently under treatment for a rare type of germ cell cancer located between his lungs, has successfully completed the second phase of his chemotherapy treatment.
“Second cycle has finished today ! Had a bleomycin shot feeling weak but I'm sure tom will be a better day ! My next scan dated on 7th march,” he tweeted.
The Indian batsman’s tumor was first detected in October last year, but doctors dismissed it as benign. However, it was later diagnosed as malignant, and the cricketer was flown to the Cancer Research Institute in Boston, USA, where he commenced his treatment
in January this year.
His condition was identified as mediastinal seminoma, and doctors have been positive about his chances of recovery, saying that this particular disease has a 95 percent cure rate. The treatment is expected to last till the end of March, after which the player
will begin the rehabilitation process in April. Yuvraj’s oncologist, Dr. Nitesh Rohatagi, has predicted that the player will be fit enough to join the national team for active training in May.
The micro-blogging site, Twitter, has been Yuvraj’s preferred medium of communication with his fans, and he has been tweeting regularly about his condition.
On February 15, the Player of the Tournament for the 2011 World Cup shared an ecstatic message with fans, which confirmed that the tumour was almost completely cured.
"Got very good news from dr lawrence today! The tumor is almost way out of the system Aftr reading my todays scan!Second cycle has started," he tweeted.
The 30-year-old is under treatment by Dr. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/France-c2899 veteran, Lance Armstrong, and told fans that he was reading the cyclist’s autobiography, It's Not About The Bike, which he found inspiring. Armstrong, in
turn, sent the all-rounder a goodwill message, wishing him a quick recovery and encouraging him to stay strong. The left-hander once again took to Twitter, to express his gratitude, and share the news with his fans.
Yuvraj last played for the national side in November last year, during a Test series against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 on home ground (which the Men In Blue went on to win, 2-0). If he is able to recover fully and rejoin the team by May, he may be able to take part
