Second hand LCD? any help?

should I purchase a second hand sharp aquos from someone for like 200$ off retail price his reason for selling is he doesnt need 3 tvs I am going to view it is there any way to view the model number on it to make sure its not a rip off and actually a cheaper model then advertised?

1.  i stay away from second hand electronics (especially TVs).  usually, when people are selling them, it indicates that there is something wrong and he/she is trying to unload it.  let the buyer beware.

2.  200 is not enough of a discount for me to consider that a good deal.  personally, for something used, i would pay no more than 50 percent of retail.  

3.  if you have your heart set on this, i would insist that you be allowed to inspect the TV while it is on.  I would test out all of the inputs and make sure that the remote works as well.  i'm betting that something's wrong here and they aren't telling you.  also, if this is a friend, be careful.  doing business with friends can blow up in your face, big time.

If you look into buying secondhand complex consumer electronics be prepared for someone selling to get rid of a problem. If you are going to view the tv, check for burnt out pixels (little black dots) and check inputs, outputs, and remote. If you want to compare the models, search for the model number and call up someone like best buy or circuit city and search for prices. Just make sure that the tv is in perfect condition before you buy it. Ask the seller about any recent lightning strikes or power failures. Those kind of events can damage the circuit boards of those type of tv's. Best of luck!
