Question:

Second hand smoke--any doubt about the effects?

Is there doubt that second hand smoke causes lung cancer? John Stossel did a show that talked about myths, and one was the harmful effects of second hand smoke being overblown. He claimed that the government was lying about the minimal amount that was necesarry to be harmful.

I've also heard that there are a few other skeptics in the media, (all of whom happen to be skeptical of global warming, as Stossel is). Are these objections based on any facts?

  1. smoke causes lung cancer .vehicles like cars, motarcycles release carbonmonoxide .by breathing that carbonmonoxide it causes harm to lungs.it also causes harm to environment.

  2. I've been smoking 3 packs a day my whole adult life and my two remaining kids are doing fine.

  3. yes second hand smoke is probable to cause cancer.

  4. I guess it really depends on each individual person.

I think it does...my aunt worked at a Ford facility in town back when it was ok to smoke in public as a book keeper. She spent long days in smoke filled rooms working. She did not smoke, but she had many problems with her lungs. She contracted tuberculosis and had pneumonia numerous times. When she died she was hooked to a venalator.

On the other hand, my grandmother smoked a pack a day, but smoking wasn't what killed her. She recieved a bad blood transfusion during the 1970's, which gave her Hepatitis C, cirrhosis, and later cancer of the liver. She never had lung problems at all despite her smoking.

And my stepdad smoked since he was 4 years old, but he never got lung cancer or any other disease related directly to smoking.

I'm not bashing smokers in any way, because I smoke myself. But I believe it is harmful not only to your lungs, but to the rest of your body as well. In some cases, fingers turn blue, it yellows teeth, causes bad breath, and causes a yellow ring around your mouth.

And when you exhale, all of the unused tar is floating in the air that non-smokers breathe. I'm sure if it can cause all that harm to smokers, it must be equally dangerous for non-smokers to breathe.

  5. I honestly don't see how they can say for sure that second hand smoke causes cancer. A person's complete environment plays a part also. I wonder too since we have been told smoking causes lung cancer, why doesn't every smoker get lung cancer then? What exactly is the ratio for smokers that have had lung cancer and smokers that have not?

  6. I dont belive any of that. I've heard of someone with half a long who smokes.

  7. I don't see how anyone could say matches cause forest fires.  I've seen lots of children playing with matches and they never started forest fires.  Forest fires are just liberal propaganda!

  8. There's no doubt in my humble mind.
