Second life for broken mechanical pencils

I have several mechanical pencils that won't work anymore. add lead, doesn't come through.

anyone use the casings for another purpose?

I did a back to school deal and ended up getting a bunch of new ones for free, so not really interested in going to extraordinary lengths to make these work as pencils again. But if any creative minds out there have found a way to re-purpose them, please share!

  1. You can cut the pencil "tubes" into quarter inch little pieces and separate them by color. This would allow you to donate them to elementary school classes for the teachers to use as an aid to teach color and counting.

  2. Apart from possibly recycling them, you can break them into shards and glue them as part of an art project, even better if its the colored translucent kinds.  It might turn out to be a nice touch up for a picture frame.

  3. I like your attitude - have a star!

Thinking of an alternative use is a little hard. Maybe given to your school art department as materials?

There are some companies making products from recycled materials.

Maybe you could start a collection programe?
