Second loss of the season, and...?

I am the team captain, we were up 21-9, and lost our 3rd game. I feel some what guilty, I am the setter and I dumped one out instead of trusting my hitters to get it in. We had a downfall from there. So I was wondering if I should have some feel of guilt in this? Everyone said I played good, and it wasn't my fault, but I really feel like it was all on me.

  1. you should not feel guilty..i had the same problem tonight with feeling guilty about us loosing our game because i have three errors..but it is not your fault if you did your best that's all you can do and you shouldn't put yourself down about something so simple

  2. Since the games are to 25 points and you missed 1 point, you can share in the loss.  There have been instances where I would pin a loss on one player, but not many.  (One example would be a match I refereed.  The team was up 14-3 when the player argued a line call.  And ARGUED.  And then he said some things he should not have said.  He was expelled and his team did not any legal subs, so his team had to default the game.  That loss was his fault.)

No one player can take credit for a win.  And unless there are unusual circumstances like expulsion and defaults, no one player can take the blame for the loss.  There are 6 players on the court at all times and all of the people on the bench, including the coach.  Everyone gets to share the loss.  Equally.  It is the same as when you win.  Everyone gets the credit equally.

  3. dont feel guilty..it is a team...u win as a team..and lose as a team..it does not revolve in just one person

  4. You shouldn't feel guilty there is more than one person on your team and you didn't make all the mistakes

  5. the same thing happens on my team a girl is captain but she doesnt trust her hitters but u have to or else its a one man game and u cant have that

  6. You are the team captain for a reason.  When the coach looked at you or your team mates looked at you they saw how much you cared and gave.  For that reason you are the team captain and for that reason you need to shake off your guilt.  Unless you were the only one out there games are always a team effort (win or lose).   You made a mistake, ONE mistake, you lost concentration, you doubted your team mates, whatever.  SHAKE IT OFF!  If you really had messed up horribly your coach would have pulled you off the court and told you, or after the game they would have let you know.  I am aware that all you can see is your error, look at it as a learning experience.   Go back out and play some volleyball.  And remember to have fun!!!

  7. A lot of times as a setter you have to make some judgement calls.  I think you shouldn't let what you decided to affect your future gameplay.  Yeah it's hard, and hindsight is 20/20, but still you can't win it on your own.  That one point might have been your fault, but it doesn't mean the whole game was, the team gave up the 21-9 lead, not just you.  You can't let bad decisions mar future points.  That's how volleyball is played, one point at a time.

  8. no it is not your fault.  one mistake doesn't make you a horrible player.  all of your teammates must of made mistakes if you lost, so don't feel bad.  if you play the team again, make sure to set your hitters and hopefully you'll win.
