Second opinion confirms original diagnosis of Roy Halladay as he recovers - MLB Update
To ascertain exact nature of the shoulder injury, Roy Halladay underwent a re-examination. As per the reports, problem is the same as to what was determined in the first place. This relaxes both Halladay and the Philadelphia Phillies’ management over the
concerns that injury may turn out to be more severe than it looked apparently.
Meanwhile, rehabilitation process is going fine for Halladay. Strained latissimus dorsi muscle had sent him on disabled list. As a result, announcement about his outage from the season for six to eight weeks was made.
Considering the long time he is going to stay out, depleted Phillies will find it hard to neutralise the impact. Losing an ace for such a long time spells hard time for a side, which has seen their offence slumping, right from start of the season.
Notwithstanding how Halladay has performed in the 2012 season, undoubted credentials for throwing shut-out games and an ability to bounce back even from the most hopeless situations come as a backdrop behind the blow the Phillies suffered with his injury.
Halladay’s injury coincided with the return by starter Vance Worley from Disabled List. It was being hoped that Worley will go a long way in minimising the impact and will keep the Phillies’ pitching department from decaying.
As it turned out, the game in which Worley started amply demonstrated the fact, the Phillies are not going to have an easy time without Halladay.
Worley crumbled on the mound and reignited the debate about how the Phillies are going to manage the rotation to survive until Halladay comes back.
After the check-up, Halladay spoke about how important it was to confirm real nature of the problem. He believes it is going to help shorten the time for recovery. Any injury which potentially can turn up during a crucial stage in the season will be addressed
beforehand.
"The important thing is just knowing that a week could save me a month," Halladay said. "As much as I want to be back, I want to make sure that when I am back, it's not something I have to address later on, that it's a hurdle that's been passed and doesn't
need to be something that reoccurs down the road. I understand that and I'm going to be very cautious of that."
Halladay will be resting for few weeks before appearing in the ballpark and giving some exercise to his arms. He will wish to take the Phillies to a substantial position in the season once he returns.
