Second round of Olympic ticket sales end
The second round of chance ticket sales for the London 2012 Olympics has ended and a total of 750,000 tickets have been allotted during the time period.
The 150,000 applicants who have finally been able to secure themselves seats to the Olympics events taking place next year belong to the group of applicants were not lucky enough to get tickets during the first round, despite that their applications for
tickets were successful.
The entire ticketing procedure adopted by the organisers of the Olympics has not gone down well with the public. In the first round of ticket sales, only 750,000 applicants were successful in getting their hands on the tickets with 1.2 million people left
in the dark. The successful group was informed of their seats and events after a few days which led to even more dissatisfaction as a significant number of people were not happy with the events that they were allotted.
Therefore, in the second round of ticket sales, a different strategy was adopted. The applicants were given a 10 day window in which the tickets could be purchased on a first come first serve basis. The organizers of the Olympics aimed to accommodate as
many of the first round applicants who had failed to get tickets.
Chris Townsend, who is the commercial director of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games made the following statement concerning the issue: “Our goal is to get as many members of the British public to the Games as possible. We
now have at least 150,000 more successful applicants - and they and their friends and families are now going to the Games.”
Seeing the public sentiment and the chaos that has been caused in both the first as well as the second round of ticket sales, the organisers have decided to open up another window especially for those applicants who still do not have tickets despite the
fact that their applications were completely or partially submitted the first time around.
This makes a total of 700,000 applicants who will get the chance to get tickets from 8th to 17th July.
