I have a router downstairs in my house, however I have my xbox 360 upstairs and the wireless adapter for it just flat sucks. I would like to hard wire it but dont want to run ethernet cables all threwout my house. Is there any way I can set up another router upstairs wirelessly and then go directly from that to my 360?

  1. No. You would need a wireless range extender, which mounts in between the router and the furthest machine and relays the signal. 2 routers do NOT work.

  2. Well IF both routers support WDS (wireless distribution system) then you can set both up to communicate to each other and run off the lan ports upstairs or even wireless.  Many routers do support that feature, many do not. Usually for this to work well the routers need to be from the same company and both have WDS feature.  So check to see if your downstairs router has that, if not then you will need a repeater or other form of bridge or AP upstairs. (Most AP's now have bridge settings which makes them a "receiver" as well as access point.) Be sure you position the upstairs unit so that it has good signal from the main router.

Here is a Belkin Article on WDS http://belkin.com/support/kb/kb.asp?a=28...

If you have a Linksys, Dlink, Netgear that support WRT software you can change the firmware and use WDS.

    Hope that helps.
