Second seed, Lee Westwood, eyeing major victory at Abu Dhabi
World No. 2 Lee Westwood, accompanied with the coaching expertise of Phil Kenyon, is looking forward to an elusive win.
He is quite positive about winning the ongoing Abu Dhabi HSBC Open as he, especially at this point of time, desperately needs to give his career a major breakthrough by claiming victory in a mainstream event.
The 38-year-old English golfer has particularly been fun and an inspiration to watch when it comes to small scale events but it is pre-dominantly the majors where he needs to invest greater effort.
Since the time he has been a part of golf, Westwood is regarded as one of the most consistent players ever in the game.
This can further be testified from the recent performances he delivered at the Thai Championship, an event he was able to claim victory in with the help of seven masterly played shots.
It is important to mention here that before the beginning of the event, Lee was at his career’s lowest ranking of 60.
The winning streak, coupled with consistency, was then followed by the victory he acquired at the Nedbank Challenge.
The event that took place in Sun City, South Africa, helped him in registering the 37th Professional win of this career.
Apart from these glistening figures, there is also a dismal side of his career. This is the side of major events where Westwood has not been able to perform that well.
Other than the US Open, his career still lacks the decoration he requires to make his portfolio more entertaining and enticing.
It is primarily because of this loophole that Westwood has been eyeing the Abu Dhabi Open with immense interest.
He believes that this is the event that can help him get a groundbreaking victory over all his other competitors.
With the help of his coach Phil, he is sure that he can definitely make it to the top this time.
Commenting about their relationship, Lee said: "The most pleasing thing was, about four weeks prior to that [Sun City and Bangkok], I started working with Phil Kenyon and to shoot 62 round Sun City and then 60 around Amata Spring, you need to start making
a few 15-footers, which I've been missing for the last 17 years".
For Westwood, the journey with his new coach and for the Abu Dhabi Open will definitely be a bumpy ride.
