Second stringers need to elevate their skills to become elite shuttlers, says coach Tan Kim Her
Malaysia’s Doubles national coach, Tan Kim Her, said that the second stringers in the Doubles category need to improve their skills for becoming elite players as they are still lacking the impressive touch. However, he admitted that back-up players have
improved but they still need to get elevation to become world beaters.
Kim Her knows that back-up players have not got the highest level of skills and need to improve if they want to beat the top shuttlers in the world of badminton. He also appreciated the better performance of a few players who have been performing well for
the last one year. However, he wants them to elevate their skills to achieve glory at international stage.
The coach wants them to work hard in training sessions to become competent shuttlers at major tournaments. While talking about Men’s Doubles pair of Lim Khim Wah and Goh Wei Shem, the coach said that both shuttlers have been playing well in the whole year,
but they lost their good run after the SEA Games, which was held in November, in Indonesia.
The World Number 31, Khim Wah and Wei Shem are set to compete in the upcoming event of Korea Open Premier Super Series 2012, which will start from January 3 at Seoul, Korea.
The coach has higher expectations from the pair as he wants them to perform well in the upcoming events to get a good ranking.
Kim Her said, “I expected a lot more from them following their performances in Indonesia but they simply failed to live up to expectations. Their form has been like a roller coaster, ups and downs, and I have told them not to take too long to snap out of
it.”
He further added, “Both of them need to play well together if they’re to achieve any results. Khim Wah has to start believing in himself and play with more confidence.”
In the upcoming Korea Open, Khim Wah and Wei Shem will start their campaign from the qualifying round. In the opening match, they will be up against Chayut Triyachart and Danny Bawa Chrisnanta of Singapore.
