  1. i think there was way too much water in his laungs.. not enough to drown him at the moment but enough to drawn him hours later

  2. secondary drowing usually occurs after a near drowning incident.  In a near drowning incident, even if the victim seems normal, they should seek medical attention to determine if any fluids remain in the lungs.

  3. Well he swallowed a lot of water which means some got into his lungs. As long as you don't swallow a c**p ton of water you won't die.

  4. thats scary!

  5. Secondary drowning has to do with aspiration of fluids....that is, the inhalation of water into the lungs.  Once in the lungs the liquid goes into the bloodstream and can have several negative effects, including inhibiting the ability of the blood's red cells to carry oxygen.

This is why in a near-drowing or any water rescue when the victim has submerged for more than just an instant, the patient is usually kept in the Hospital for 24-hours under observation.  A person after rescue will appear fine at first, but will sometimes develop life-threatening symptoms up to 12 hours or even more later on.

Unless you had a near-drowning experience in the pool and were rescued after submerging for more than a few seconds, you are in no danger for secondary drowning.
