Secret Circle came back from behind to unleash a potent run in the stretch to win the Jack Goodman Stakes
The 2-year-old colt, Secret Circle picked up from where he left off, as he piled up another victory over his maiden special weight race when he went out against five other juvenile colts in the $71,340 Jack Goodman Stakes at Santa Anita on 10 October, 2011.
Secret Circle earned an automatic berth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint to be held at Churchill Downs on 4 November, 2011, after winning the Jack Goodman Stakes as he improved his record to 2 wins in as many starts.
Under jockey Rafael Bejarano, the son of Eddington, Secret Circle jumped to third place behind the leaders Sweep Swap and A Toe by Three for the first half a mile.
Over the distance of 6 furlongs, Secret Circle chased a quick pace and the two leading duo, who set fractions of 21.31 seconds for the opening quarter mile and 44.20 seconds for the half mile.
Jockey Rafael Bejarano, settled Secret Circle behind the Sweep Swap and A Toe by Three, waiting for the stretch to go all out, and when the time came, the pair was in perfect position to do what they planned.
Bejarano let Secret Circle lose in the stretch and he just took off, it was an unbelievable run and surprised his rivals and won by a comfortable margin of 5 ¼ lengths over the runner up Galex, and covered the 6 furlong distance in 1 minute and 8.27 seconds.
Jerry Hollendorfer trained Galex, made an impressive run form the fifth position and closed in on his rivals, but was no match to Secret Circle and finished way behind the winner.
The son of Decarchy, Pannettone also made a slight move on the outside but got beaten by Galex by a length.
Out of Ragtime Hope by Dixieland Band, Secret Circle is trained by Bob Baffert for owner Michael Pegram, and the colt broke his maiden on 23 July, 2011.
Under the same jockey Rafael Bejarano, Secret Circle took on a distance of 5 ½ furlongs at Del Mar and cleared the pack easily in his first attempt to break his maiden.
