Secret Gesture out of Irish Oaks – Horseracing News
Secret Gesture has been ruled out of the Darley Irish Oaks after suffering an injury to her hind leg. She was expected to be a strong contender for winning the race at Curragh, but things will now be even easier for favourite filly
Riposte.
The latter of the two was getting the attention of the punters right from the time when she was confirmed for the all important competition. Therefore, the setback to her main rival would not change things much.
On the other hand, Secret Gesture was in terrific form and she had a chance of making her team proud by causing an upset in the Irish Oaks. She has been rated pretty highly the bookies and the punters were also interested in risking
some money in her favour.
The three-year-old filly has taken part in four races until now, winning a couple of them whereas secured the runner up spot on the same number of times. She has never dropped out of the top-two, which proves that she has the ability
to challenge her rivals with consistency at the highest level.
However, it is absolutely said for her fans that she will miss out of the race, but they will definitely see the favourite filly in action.
According to a Paddy Power representative, “We've had to cut Riposte again after sustained support today. She looked very good when winning the Ribblesdale and punters are clearly hearing Lady Cecil who says that the filly has
come on again since.”
On the other hand, the favourite trainer Lady Cecil said of her challenger, “We're happy with her and she has improved since Ascot. We have liked her all year but the Oaks came too quick for her. You couldn't have asked for more
than she did at Ascot but we do think she's come on again since then.”
Riposte does not have much experience, but she has already proved her worth to everyone. She is a quality performer and does not make life easy for her opponents, when she goes out on track. Out of the three races she has taken
part in, two victories have come her way whereas she finished second once.
