  1. At the end of the day...a t.v. show isn't going to make a girl open her legs and have s*x.  That might sound blunt, but it's true!  And if a girl says that the show influenced her to do so I have no clue what show she is watching because so far in Secret Life her pregnancy has not been portrayed as glamorous.  She is constantly stressing and she's miserable about having to come clean and tell people.  So to me that wouldn't make me think, "Wow, that looks fun and enjoyable!"

So I do not think the show is influencing girls to have s*x...if anything hopefully making them think twice about the whole thing.  And if seeing the show makes someone want to have a baby then they are obviously way too immature to even realize it's not supposed to be something to encourage them..after all in the last 5 minutes of every show they have the star of the show get on and talk about teen pregnancy and how it can be avoided.  To me I think the show is great, and I hope it only helps girls realize that it's not worth it to have s*x and possibly get pregnant at just 15!

  2. the TV show doesn't tell kids "hey get pregnant at 15", it shows hardships of teenage pregnancy, and it talks about teen pregnancy at the end of every show, so it is trying to pevent teen pregnancy.  people who say that show made them want to get pregnant are crazy.

  3. I haven't even watched it myself.  If a show influences a teenager to get pregnant the kid has problems. If they had to have, pay for and take care of a child it would make them change there mind.  Be a kid while you can because growing up and taking care or a family and paying bills isn't all that great.

  4. All those dumb teens were saying stuff like that far before the show ever started, and they will continue long after the show is over

They are immature, selfish young women who think that a baby will fill an emptiness in their life.  They fail to think about the emptinesses that having a baby at their age could cause, or how selfish it is to the child.

Its really the parents fault, for not teaching their children better morals and not keeping better tabs on their kids.

but at 13 or 14, you really should know better on your own anyways

  5. its not like they're portraying it in a good thing or anything..

if she's crying about it then most likely she doesn't want a baby not should any teen.

if a teen is serioulsy influenced by a show that portrays all the BAD things (rumors, drama, etc) that come with a pregnancy to become pregnant themselves, i think they need to get their head checked..

and i think the show is unrealistic.. with some guy proposing in a two week long relationship and the most unusual love triangles (make that squares or pentagons, actually). i prefer degrassi any day..

  6. Honestly I think teens need to watch it. It really opens up a subject that teens dont really take seriously. Im a teen and after watching this me and my friends had many questions and we asked our parents about them. I think the show opens many veiws for young adults and it's touching on an issue i think is really needed to be. Please parents have your kids watch this. It gives many veiws and offers help for kids that are in that situation at the end of each episode!

  7. No. It's impossible to say that the reason teens are falling pregnant is a direct effect from watching 5 episodes of a tv program. You have to take into account of all the other things that are going on in these young people's lives. Teenage pregnancies haven't just started in the last 5 weeks, it's an issue that's costing your country millions of dollars each year and has been for many years before now.

When you watch a tv program you're not a sponge. You don't just soak up everything you see on tv (hopefully). You bring a bit of your own up bringing and social life into the situation.

The Secret Life of The American Teenager (which doesn't air in New Zealand, but I've watched it on Youtube) may possibly glamorize teenage pregnancies and views could possibly relate to Amy, which therefore may have an affect on those viewers.

My point is that there are so many other factors that come into play, you can not blame this tv show at all.

  8. i'm fourteen .. and if they're saying that they're stupid plain and simple . If they aren't five and comprehend the responsibility of a child which you should at that age unless you live under a rock then your just asking for attention .. once you become in the teens you know all about that stuff living in the US no matter how sheltered the show's motive is to do the exact opposite of wanted people to get pregnant it's more of an imformative thing like at the end of each show amy has something positive to say like planing out .. and being safe .. any 13 or 14 year old saying something like i want to be pregnant is desperate and attention seeking :] plain and simple !

  9. Honestly, if a T.V. show is influencing them to do stuff like that, they are just way too immature.
