Section 8 ?: anyone know a website that i can search for a home that the landlords accept section 8 in tucson?

about to get my section 8 (FINALLY) and want to rent a house (not an apartment or condo or duplex or similar) definitely want a house. Question: does anyone know of a website or 2 that I can search for homes that the landlord accepts Section 8? (Specifically looking for Tucson, AZ) Thanks

We have been looking for a site like this for 30 years.  RIght now you just have to check every newspaper ad.

There are no databases for landlords that accept Section 8.  You have to read the want ads in the newspaper where the landlord states "Sec 8 ok" or something to that effect.

It is very rare for a landlord to accept Sec 8 for a house rental.  Most are apartments in run-down older houses converted to multi-family, or larger apartment complexes where there are low-income housing set-asides.

Remember with a rented house you have to pay all utilities: electric, gas or oil, water, sewer, trash, phone, internet, cable.  Plus all maintenance and repairs are your responsibility: lawn mowing, weeding, gardening, gutter cleaning, window washing (interior & exterior), snow plowing & shoveling (at you'll excape that one in Tucson!).  Few to none among Sect 8 recipients are willing or able to take responsibility for doing essential work on the property, and Sect 8 does not pay for it -- you have to pay.

You can find several houses on Pimacountyhousingsearch.org  They have detailed information regarding the houses and it also provides a map on how to get there if you click on satellite it can give you a street look where you can see the house from the street for those that don't  have pictures. Try craisglist, you can search for section 8, but really you need to get on the telephone and start calling.
