Question:

Security cam remote view configuration

I bought and set up a 4 channel security cam set that allows you to view from a remote pc with internet access. It says to simply enter the server address into IE, and the client pc will begin to download the necessary software (from the security cam pc, I assume). The PC I have the system installed on is connected to a linksys router as a client to my network. I'm not quite sure what adress to put into IE...if I put my IP address, it just takes me to my routers configuration screen. Where would I find the server address for the PC with the security system or is something I would have to configure and how??? Thanks.

  1. Ok you must understand that there is a difference between and internal ip address and an external WAN ip address. An interal ip address cannot be access via internet, but an external WAN ip address can be access through internet. You should set up your camera system with and "external WAN ip address" (DVR, PC, or whatever it is your using to connect the cameras. I don't know what your using). So you can access your camera system through the internet.

In order to set up your camera system with its own WAN ip you will need to configure your router with a WAN port and plug your camera system into that WAN port. A basic internet connection usually consists of only one WAN IP that your network shares, if your needing another WAN IP for your camera system, then you should contact your ISP (internet service provider) about getting another WAN IP.

I hope that makes sense. If you've never done this before. Then I can only imagine what your thinking. It gets pretty complicated. It might be a good idea to get technical help. Its one of those things that I have to know more information about to really be specific.
