I had a security clearence for the Marines the other day and ive not really had anything that bad on my record. I will tell you everythng. i had 2 minor in consumptions when i was underage and a criminal damage charge also. after i became 18 the only thing ive been charged with was the minor in consumption (i was drunk at my school and having major problems with my gf who attends a different school) and doing a beer run- 2 30 packs for a party- and assault on a police officer (this was when i was at school) (i spit on him) that charge was dropped and i did jail time for not paying fines and on the application where they asked 'have you ever been convicted of a crime?' i asked my mom on that one and she said just put no i listened to her, because shes ranked higher than most men in the military. my cousin is a state trooper in ohio, my sisters a phychologist, mom,my father who i havent seen since i was 15, is a cardiovascular sergeon my uncles are lawyers.im a good person. im letting not only myself down but all of them. i dont have much i hope they dont take that away from me.

  1. He's right then you can do jail time for lying. Those will come up when they do a security clearance. Lying about smoking marijuana 3 years back and lying about going to jail is two different things, going to jail can and more than likely will be dug up.

  2. In the security investigation process there are often times situations that they become aware of that are also referenced in your package by you when you submit it.  These situations go through an adjudication process and often times if it is something like misdemeanor alcohol possession or some other simple misdemeanor it gets waved and your clearance package gets approved and you get your clearance.  Not putting it down shows a deliberate intention to mislead and you lied since at the end of the package you sign a statement attesting to all the things in it being honestly answered.  This in their minds shows not a single solitary thing like getting busted for alcohol and being underage but a more serious negative reflection on your character in general and it could very easily cost you your clearance while the alcohol thing they would have looked at and probably not had any big problem with.  That is why it is best to divulge everything since many people, even the some of the ones approving your clearance, have probably made mistakes in their lives due to a lack of judgement, maturity, and forethought earlier in their lives before they entered the military.  If you get your clearance consider yourself lucky and I hope you learn from this and handle this situation better next time!

  3. Ok, I take it that you have not yet entered Boot, so, long of the short.. your mom does not "ranked higher than most men in the military"  She is 100% wrong in this. The idea of the pre-entrance check is to test your honesty.. all the things you mentioned are on record, irregardless of age... unlike civilian checks for employment, ALL records (including Juvenile, and expunged) are available to the Military...  They ALREADY know... and you lied. All you had to do was be 100% Honest... the double dip on the drinking thing does raise red flags, but, as is often said, "there is a waiver for almost everything", except lying... though you claim to be a good person, and your Family has many successes, your judgment is lacking, so even though your Family has been successful, that does not mean that you will be, it was up to you... and so far, it isn't looking good... as to not having much, um, well.... many folks have a lot less, and they see that and appreciate what they do have... you just whine.

Ever hear the phrase "The Few, The Proud"? Does lying on the entnac make you feel Proud? Does feeling entitled, based on Family success? Does having done jail time, before you have even reached age 19?

Go try again in a year, I hear the NG is looking for some bodies.

Do I sound harsh? Tough, you want to join The Corps, MY Corps... suck it up, and learn something from it.

Nobody TOOK anything, you GAVE it to them by being dishonest, and committing numerous crimes to begin with.

  4. if you lied and are caught losing your security clearance will be the least of your worries

It is a crime to lie on those forms

  5. Who your relatives are has nothing to do with you. I can't believe that you would listen to someone who told you to lie. Not only have you risked your own career, your mother did the same. Good luck to you. Hold your breath.

  6. Guess you should have BEEN Up Front with my Marine Corps!

Your mom ain't the one that attested to having told the truth. You DID.  I'm not buying that your mother (or anyone else) as a senior member in the military (officer or enlisted) would tell you to LIE! (edit: violation for you and HER under the UCMJ)

You spit on a cop and you can't hold your booze. You break stuff, lie and shirk your responsibilities. Great!

Personally, if you pass the Security Clearance, it will amaze me!  But then, it is a strange world!

Please tell me that YOU aren't going into the Air Wing.
