  1. When a security guard mentions rounds he/she is usually talking about a set of regular checks.  Most security contracts require the guard to check a set of doors or alarm points so many times in a shift.  The guards may break these checks up into patrols and make them every hour a so; they call these rounds.

Sometimes the employer will use some kind of tool to ensure the security guard is away and moving around the property.  These may be devices placed around the perimeter of the property and the guard may be required to "hit" these devices once an hour or so.  This would also be called doing rounds.

    I hope this helps.

  2. A security guard that is required to make rounds, has to walk the entire outside and inside of the property that he or she is suppose keep secure.  They will usually be required to punch a clock with a card that they carry on them.  This will show say if they are required to make rounds every hour on the hour, that they are performing their job when their boss checks the electronic clock that they must punch.  (The clocks will be situated in all areas to show that they made the rounds as required).
