Security measures not sufficient during Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final: Dave Richardson
The General Manager of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Dave Richardson has said that security measures for the day-night final of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy are not sufficient, and steps should be taken to improve security.
The ICC had sent Richardson to witness the first ever day-night encounter between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391 2009, and Richardson’s report was very important in this context.
Although http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richardson-c85395 was in Pakistan to assess the match, this was an opportunity for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to impress the ICC representative by providing fool-proof security in the match.
It is a shame that the PCB didn’t take any measures to enhance security for the match, as there were no jammers installed in the ground, and a section of a the boundary wall is yet to be re-built after it collapsed a few months earlier.
Concering the security measures, Richardson said, “I am fearless, which is the reason I am not panicking. But yet there is a need to enhance the security condition.”
An official of the board, who was present at National Stadium Karachi to witness the match, also expressed his concerns over the security measures. He said, “When I arrived here at the stadium, there was a feeling that the security measures are not that great. I was amazed to see the portion of the wall missing and have learnt that it’s been a while since it hasn’t been built.”
The only team that showed some interest in touring the troubled country was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045, but due to a tough schedule before the World Cup a tour could not be arranged. However, Zimbabwe is expected to tour Pakistan in late 2011.
The PCB official stated, “The people who are sitting at the helm of affairs will look into this matter, and we will try to bring to their knowledge the poor security management during this historical final.”
The official further added that the situation was embarrassing for the country, as it has to be considered seriously in order to bring international cricket back to Pakistan.
