  1. Car 1 is traveling at 2mi/80sec = 1mi/40sec = Rate1

    Car 2 is traveling at 2mi/60sec = 1mi/30sec = Rate2

    Time = Total Distance / Rate

    T = X1 / Rate1

    T = X2 / Rate2

    For this problem we want to know when Car 2 is 2 miles ahead of Car 1, so:

    X1 + 2 = X2

    X1 / Rate1 = X2 / Rate2

    X1 / Rate1 = (X1 + 2) / Rate2

    Solve for X1, then find T.

    You should be able to figure it out from here.

  3. You want me to do your homework. I will decline. This question doesn't belong under cars/safety by any stretch of the imagination.

    Thumbs down for not helping you cheat? And you can't even ask in the right place? idiot.
