Question:

Seed in cockatiel's nose?

so, I think there is something in the left nostril of my cockatiel. It looks like a little golden seed. The other nostril doesn't look golden, but looks gray as it always was. Is there something stuck in her nose? If there is, how do I help her get it out? She already scratched at it and sneezed. Is she in any danger? Help? Thank you!

  1. She shouldn't be in any danger but will uncomfortable at the moment. I wouldn't try to get it out yourself as you may cause her more distress, wait til it comes out itself

  2. birds have nostrils?

  3. i agree completely with Dave it sounds like he knows what he is doing, but once my cocatiel got like a little ''fuss feather'' in his knows but it didnt bother him and it came out within 2-3 days before he got it stuck.

  4. She probably is in some danger because she can only breathe out of one nostril.  There's probably nothing you can do but you should go to the vet and see if they can get it out.  Good luck!

  5. It will more than likely come out by itself or with the help of your bird. It could be pretty dangerous to try to help her out yourself as much as you may want to. Keep an eye on it and if begins to really irritate your bird and stays in for a while, then call the vet and ask for their opinion on how to handle the situation.

  6. I would leave it alone and just watch him closely.  Things like this happens to birds all the time and they will eventually dislog it.  Besides you're not 100% sure that it's a seed, it may be just a little bit of discharge and will fall out by itself.

  7. soft tooth brush to dislodge it perhaps?By gently brushing the bristles towards the nostril
