Question:

Seed that grows on oak trees besides the acorn???

Does anyone know what kind of seed this is? It is round and about the size of a plumb. They are tan and have a paperthin coat. They float in water. If the shell is opened it has what appears to be a dandylion like seed in it. I have seen them on oak trees, but I thought the acorn was the seed of an oak tree. Any information to help my curiousity would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
