I have a 6 gallon tank that i'm setting up for a betta and neon tetras. I want to speed up the cycling process with an extablished tank filter, gravel and old decorations. I want to also add pure ammonia instead of using fish food. How do you use pure ammonia? how much? and how often? do you know how quickly this tank will cycle?

thanks!

  1. well you can buy pure ammonia at your local grocery store though it cannot smell like anything and it has to be clear. when doing the nitrogen cycle you would usually do about 2-3 tanlespoons full of ammonia per gallon. then after like about 2 weeks or so you have to use half the ammount of oure ammonia.

pure ammonia is kinda hard to find though so i would use a nylon sock and fill it up with fish food. or you can use your neon tetras to produce the ammonia in which theyll p**p and the p**p will make ammonia.

    best of luck!!! =D

  2. Well, I did the same thing as you only with fish food. I say put a cap full in per day and keep checking ammonia levels, nitrite and nitrate levels and it will cycle pretty quick! Used live bacteria and gravel full of good bacteria and "fed" the tank every day, it cycled in 4 days!
