I am looking to change my broadband internet form having a cable running from the computer to the land line into a wireless service.

how do i do this.

what type of brand or wireless modem router should i look for. without spending more than 70 quid on a wireless box (as i call it)

if i have the box do i need wireless USB adaptor?

what is WiFi?

or can anyone just give me general information on going wireless and what i need for it? but please try and answer someof the confusing questions above.

  1. I would suggest buying a ADSL router (built in modem)

You need a wireless adapter in order to receive wireless (eg: usb adapter, wireless card etc)

    WIFI = Wireless basically

Also for your security, make sure you use a WPA encryption as people like to snoop in the neighbourhood to see what they can get their hands on from your computer. Use other security precautions too is a BIG must!

For under £70, u can buy a ADSL router with a wireless usb adapter.

    Hope this info helps you

    Good Luck!

  2. You will obviously need a wireless router the phone line pops in the back of the router.

Here are some examples - netgear have a good name.

Wifi is just the technology your gooing to be using, i assume your PC/laptop is not wifi enabled (wireless reciever built in) so you would have to buy a wifi card (slots into the back of the computer with little aerial or better still buy usb wifi dongle

    here are some dongles

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_w_h_...

All this extra kit should have a decent guide for installation and setup check if you can before you buy.

    So to recap

    Buy router plug it in.

Buy dongle install on your computer

Give the new access point a name (eg homewifi) in the software supplied with the dongle you ahould have an address to point to enter simply what you decide to call the connection and fingers crossed you are wifi enabled.

To take things further to maintain your wifi connection open up the internet browser and in the address bar type 192.168.0.1 this should point you the interface for your router and set security like WEP etc.

I think i have talked too much so good luck

  3. If you have a wireless card already working on your computer, then all you need is a Wireless router, a modem, and an ISP.

  4. does your computer have a wireless network card if it does then all u need is a router and isp.

If not then buy wireless router buy a network card and then ur good to go
