We reside in Edmonton and want to spend vacation out of town. Looking to travel with vehicle. It would be a first for our twin toddlers (2yrs). Not looking for anyplace that will be too hot or too cold and won't require more than a day to drive. AND.. somewhere that is toddler friendly (i.e. has grassy parks, sand, children activies, etc.)

  1. If you are going really really soon like this weekend go to Slave Lake they are having a sand sculpture championships, altho with twin toddlers they might want to knock the sculptures down, but the lake is beautiful with lots of sand. As well they are having their volleyball tournament that weekend Lesser Slave lake provincial park if you are going to camp would be the place to stay. And its only about 2.5 hrs from Edmonton.

If that is too close you can try Jasper approx 5 hrs, or Banff 4.5 hrs but there are always so many people there. And I really do not think your lil ones would like the lakes too cold!! But there is a lot to do in both places as in tourist sightseeing.

If you want to go to Saskatchewan you could stay in Prince Albert(that's where I live 7 hrs away) and then do some day trips, to Candle Lake (45 mins from PA) where the beaches are awesome and they have sand spits in the water, so the lil ones can walk out and play on the sand and feel like they are in the middle of the lake(we go there all the time). Then we have Waskesiu about 1 hr north of PA, beautiful beaches and very nice lake, very clean!  As well as Emma Lake, Christopher Lake 30 mins from PA, nice sandy beaches.

You could go further into BC but the lakes are colder, unless you go down to the Okanagan(approx 900 kms), which is a very nice place to vacation as well, you would have tons and tons of things to do with the lil ones there, lots of beaches.

    Those are just some ideas.

  2. Lots of Canadians go to Wildwood, NJ. Great boardwalk for kids and ocean has very small (6") waves  so toddlers wont get knocked over. Where's Edmonton again? Keep losing track of your provinces!!

  3. ocean city maryland is by far the best beach on the northern-ish east coast and has the most stuff to do!! i went there every year since i was born... or you could even come down the street from me at hershey chocolate world!! and amusement park, lots of kiddie rides and i think kids 2 and under are free admission.
