Can someone please give me more information on the segunda mouth piece? And what the difference is between the jointed segunda and a solid segunda?

  1. From my understanding, not my experience as I've never used one. . .

The solid segunda is a pretty strong bit. Make sure you know what you're doing using it. The jointed one is a little gentler. It basically applies pressure to the roof of the mouth to encourage the horse not to pull through the bit.

  2. I like the broken segundas, personally.  It relieves a lot of tongue pressure, which should be good for your horse.  As long as you are light with your hands, you should be fine (but I suppose that's the same for a lot of bits).  If you don't need the leverage from the kimberwicke cheek pieces, I know they make them with full cheeks, and I think even D-rings.  I like the broken one more than the solid because it has more snaffle action than curb action, and I work better with that personally.
