Segundo Navarrete wins 8a as Heriberto Acosta takes 8b stage of Vuelta a Bolivia 2011
In the time trial stage of Vuelta a Bolivia, Ecuador National Team’s Segundo Navarrete set the fastest time of 58 minutes and 1 second to cover a distance of 39 kilometres. The race started in Copacabana and finished in San Pedro de Tiquina.
Pio Rico Team’s Juan Cotumba was in the runner-up’s spot, 56 seconds down to Segundo, whereas Victor Niño (EBSA Colombia) finished third with a difference of 58 seconds.
Cotumba did an excellent job and all his efforts served him to retain his first place in the overall standing of the race. He dominated the General Classification with a timing of 30 hours, 4 minutes and 13 seconds.
Navarrete was in the second place with 4 minutes and 45 seconds adrift, ahead of Roman Maky (Prodem - Loteria Del Tachira).
Club Atletico Nacional Potosi Team’s Heriberto Acosta displayed a superb performance in the 8b and the final stage of Vuelta a Bolivia. He took a total of 2 hours, 49 minutes and 54 seconds to cover a distance of 121 kilometres.
A group of four breakaway riders, Heriberto Acosta, Luis Checa (Z Sport SPLA), Herminio Cortes (Asociacion Municipal De Ciclismo Viacha) and Segundo Navarrete (Ecuador National), made it to the front in the final kilometres.
They gained a lead of a few seconds. However, the last two riders were easily caught by the peloton. Checa tried his best to take the lead but failed to increase his speed. Meanwhile, Acosta attacked and crossed the finished-line first.
Checa landed in the second place, 1 second down to Acosta, ahead of Cortes and Navarrete.
Following seven days of intense racing, Juan Cotumba finally ended up taking the overall standing of the race.
Cotumba told the media that he was grateful to all his teammates who supported him in difficult times throughout the race. He further added that the presence of cyclists from different places was important for all the participants, as it boosts the confidence of all the riders.
Juan took a total of 32 hours, 54 minutes and 43 seconds and Navarrete was in second place, ahead of Roman Maky and Victor Niño, in the General Classification.
