Sehwag was very unimpressive as captain at Adelaide, reckons http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wasim-Akram-c96292 - Cricket News Update
The former Pakistani skipper, Wasim Akram, on Tuesday criticised the captaincy of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739, saying that the Indian opener was unimpressive when he was the stand-in captain of the Indian team in the fourth and final Test match against Australia at
the Adelaide Oval last week. MS Dhoni was serving a one match ban for the slow over rate at Perth.
"Sehwag was very unimpressive when he led the Indian team at Adelaide,” Wasim Akram wrote in his article for a sports website on Tuesday.
"This 'I give-a-d**n' attitude is counter-productive when the chips are down. What did Sehwag do to salvage India's pride at Adelaide? I sometimes see streaks of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 in Sehwag. That dreadful propensity to self-destruct!" the former Pakistan skipper
explained.
Following their eighth successive Test loss overseas, the position of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 as the captain of the Indian cricket team has been questioned by former Indian crickets and pundits alike. They are calling for his sacking, not only as captain but as a member
of the Test squad.
The 45-year-old legendary Pakistan pacer backed the beleaguered Dhoni to continue as the Indian captain for all three formats of the game, as he does not see a fitting replacement for the incumbent currently.
The names of Sehwag and Kohli are being touted as potential replacements but Akram feels that both are not qualified to take up the responsibility. According to him, Sehwag was poor at Adelaide and Kohli is too inexperienced to lead India.
“Kohli is a kid who has just begun his career. He can wait for another five years,” said the former left-arm pace bowler of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755. “I had expected better body language from Sehwag and his team during the Adelaide Test, but I was disappointed," he added
further.
Akram also took a dig at the lanky http://www.senore.com/Cricket/I-Sharma-c1566 for his poor performance during the recently concluded Test series against Australia. Ishant Sharma spoke about the ‘luck factor’ but Akram felt that is nothing but a lame excuse to justify the
lack of wickets. He added that after 45 Test matches the pace bowler should take the onus of responsibility on his shoulders.
However, Akram who is currently mentoring the Indian Premier League franchise the Kolkata Knight Rider, said that he was hopeful the Indians would bounce back in the Commonwealth Bank series, which also features http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
