Seimone Augustus drops 32 as Minnesota Lynx stun Atlanta Dream again: WNBA Finals Game-2 Recap
Seimone Augustus racked up a team-high 36 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Minnesota Lynx used a fourth quarter rally yet again to beat Atlanta Dream 101-95 in Game-2 of the best-of-five final series on Wednesday, October 5,
2011.
The Lynx are now one step away from NBA Glory. Dream on the other hand are in dire straits and if they want to avoid a Finals heartbreak for the second time running, they need to win all the remaining games in the series. If they
manage to do that, it will be the first such feat in WNBA history.
Augustus was in her zone on the night. The Lynx guard, who struggled slightly with her shooting in game-1, was at the top of her game this time, shooting 11 for 14 from the field and 13 for 16 from free throw line. Lindsay Whalen
added 13 points and dished out four assists while Jessica Adair also came off the bench with 13 points in the victory.
For Dream, Angel McCoughtry was once again the lone player fighting. She led all the scorers with 38 points on a 10 for 22 shooting from the floor and 16 for 21 from the stripe. She also grabbed three rebounds, made three steals
and also blocked a shot.
Lindsey Harding tallied 16 points and dealt out seven assists while Iziane Castro Marques scored 14 points for the Eastern Conference Champions. Sancho Lyttle also had 13 points and seven rebounds while Erika de Souza pulled down
10 rebounds in the second consecutive loss for Atlanta.
Minnesota shot 50.0 percent (30 for 60) from the field and 82.6 percent (38 for 46) from free throw line, limiting the visiting team to 44.7 percent (34 for 76) from the floor and 65.6 percent (21 for 32) from the line.
Staring at a one game deficit, Atlanta made a solid start and by the end of the first quarter, they were leading Lynx by 28-22. McCoughtry then helped Dream hold onto a 58-50 lead at the break and a 74-69 lead at the end of the
third quarter.
However just as they did in game -1, Lynx blew the game open in the fourth quarter, opening it on a 12-4 run to go ahead by 81-78 with 06:22 to go in the final buzzer. Dream responded with seven straight points and it seemed that
they had got the game under control at 85-81. However, Lynx broke away with a late 10-0 run to seal the game.
