Seimone Augustus leads Minnesota Lynx past San Antonio Silver Stars 85-75 – WNBA Recap
Seimone Augustus scored a game high 19 points and grabbed five rebounds as Minnesota Lynx beat San Antonio Silver Stars 85-75 on Friday night at Target Center. It was fourth consecutive victory for Connecticut and fifth straight
loss for San Antonio.
Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve said of her league-leading Lynx, “This team's on a mission.”
Augustus ended the game with 7 for 9 from the field and 5 for 5 from free throw line. Maya Moore chipped in 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds in the victory. Moore also pinned 4 of 8 three-pointers in more than 32 minutes.
Rebekkah Brunson added 15 points and eight rebounds while Lindsay Whalen had 14 points, nine assists, five rebounds and two steals in the victory. Taj McWilliams-Franklin posted 10 points, grabbed seven rebounds, blocked three
shots and stole the ball twice.
Danielle Robinson led the Silver Stars with 11 points on 4 for 9 shooting from the floor. San Antonio’s forwards Sophia Young and Danielle Adams contributed 10 points and two steals each in the loss.  Young also pulled down six
rebounds and dished out three assists.
San Antonio’s leading scorer Becky Hammon was not up to her usual high standards of play. The 34-year-old guard, who is averaging 15.5 points and 5.7 assists per game so far in this season, could not add even a single point in
the defeat. She went 0 for 8 from the floor in more than 27 minutes.
Lynx shot 47.9 percent (34 for 71) from the field and limited the visiting team to only 45.9 percent (28 for 61). Minnesota outscored the Silver Stars in points in the paint 42-24.
Minnesota opened the game on a 4-0 run and maintained an 18-17 lead at the end of opening period. San Antonio has the better of the early portion of the second quarter and went ahead by 34-32 with 03:02 to go in the first half.
Lynx however raced off to a 6-2 run and held a 38-36 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, Minnesota stretched their lead to ten points, 56-46, with 04:02 remaining in the quarter. Robinson then drove to the rim and hit a free throw to cut Lynx’s lead to seven. Brunson’s jumper in the next possession
made it 58-49 for Minnesota before San Antonio reeled off an 8-3 run and trimmed their deficit to four, 61-57, heading into the fourth.
Minnesota came out strongly in the fourth quarter, scoring the first 12 points of the quarter, and pushed their lead to 16 points, 73-57. Lynx maintained their double-digit lead for rest of the game and walked away with 22nd
victory of this season.
