Malaysia’s junior player Ho Yen Mei made her presence felt as she won the Girl’s Singles crown after beating Yap Rui Chen in the title match of the Selangor Open at Juara Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, on Sunday, February 26.
By delivering a phenomenal performance, Ho Yen, who was the top seed in Girl’s Singles draw of the championship, proved that she has plenty of fire in her belly and is ready to shine at international level.
The spirited Malaysian showed her elevated skills in the final match and thrashed her lower ranked opponent in straight sets by working for just 20 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Yap Rui could not put up strong resistance against her higher ranked rival and lost the battle without taking even a single set.
In the opening points of first set, Ho Yen established her supremacy and dictated the pace of rallies. She remained in complete control of the pace and progressed with an incredible pace.
The lower ranked Yap Rui failed to stop the aggressive and perfect play and remained far behind on the score board until the interval in the game.
After the break, Ho Yen played at the same level and did not drop her speed at any stage in the game. She was fully focused in the match and won the first set with a wonderful ease by a striking margin of 21-9.
In the following set, Yap Rui accelerated her speed in the opening rallies and matched the pace of the game. She did not commit unforced errors this time and remained close to her opponent until the break.
After the one-minute interval, Ho Yen injected more power in her strokes and played attacking badminton. Her strategy worked well as she managed to set up a reasonable lead on the score board.
Ho Yen did not lose her focus at this concluding stage of second set and bagged it with a reasonable margin of 21-17.
The spirited Ho Yen emerged as the winner in this 20-minute final contest with a 21-9 and 21-17 score on the board.
