Selcuk Aydin takes on Robert Guerrero in a 12-round bout for WBC welterweight gold – Boxing News
Selcuk Aydin, the WBC silver welterweight champion, in a recent interview, shared his thoughts about his upcoming opponent Robert Guerrero and said that he will defeat the WBA and WBO lightweight champion to grasp the interim WBC welterweight gold adding
that after nailing the American Robert he will duly be known as the Ghostbuster.
Aydin and Robert are scheduled to collide in a 12-round championship bout on July, 28, 2012. The ring for the Saturday night extravaganza will be stretched at San Jose, California, United States and the arena for the bout is still to be decided.
Selcuk, the Turkish number one welterweight who also resides in the top world rankings, has been in a total 23 bouts and has never lost even a single skirmish. The 28-year-old orthodox is a knockout specialist and has collected a whopping 17 of his wins
by knockout.
Due to his impressive pugilism Aydin is denoted widely as ‘Mini Tyson’ and has even held the EBU European and WBC international welterweight titles.
His opponent Robert is also a prolific pugilist and boasts an intimidating resume. The world number one lightweight has been in a total 33 bouts and lost just one engagement to Gamaliel Diaz. Interestingly he avenged that loss and nailed Diaz within one
month of the first skirmish, to collect the NABF featherweight gold.
Robert, infamous as ‘The Ghost’, is one of the three lucky brawlers who have nailed Michael Katsidis. The southpaw Robert has even pinned names such as Vicente Escobedo, Joel Casamayor, Roberto David Arrieta and others.
Both men are considered ace pugilist in their division therefore an epic clash is definitely expected. During the interview Aydin excitedly praised Robert for being man enough to accept the challenge and said that he is very happy with the finalisation of
the deal and is expecting a toe-to-toe competition from the American Ghost.
During the short interview Turkish Mini-Tyson bashed the pugilists who let down his bout invitation. Aydin commented, “I am very happy that the deal has been finalized and I’m looking forward to a great fight. Andre Berto ducked me over years, Victor Ortiz
decided that it would be better for his career to lose to Mayweather than to me, and Mayweather himself obviously prefers doing time in jail to stepping in the ring with me.”
Aydin with much confidence pompously said at the end of the interview, “I will beat Guerrero anytime, anyplace. He calls himself “The Ghost”? After July 28th I will be known as ‘The GhostBuster’.”
The rest of the pay-per-view is still to be decided along with the finalisation of the venue. The bout will have Floyd Mayweather’s interim WBC welterweight title up for the grabs who recently vacated the gold in order to fight Miguel Cotto.
