Question:

Self Affirmation Wedding Ideas?

Hi. Well I guess in Colorado (and I don't know what other states) you can marry yourself. You do not need an officiant. You can sign the marriage license as "self" and it is 100% legal and binding. You are married instantly. Has anyone ever done this? We are going to, but are thinking of an at home small ceremony with family/friends. Any ideas?

  1. Are you talking about a justice of the peace wedding? I'm just curious, I've never heard of a marriage like that. Anyway, I think you should have a nice dinner. Don't make too much of a fuss though. Perhaps just have a celebration afterwards and go somewhere fun and have a picnic!

  2. Hi:

Well, no, I have never done this nor have I heard about it.  Just make sure you do all the correct paperwork.  Here is a site regarding marriage license laws, etc. in Colorado:

    http://marriage.about.com/cs/marriagelic...

This little "blurb" is from that site:

    Officiants:

Couples themselves may solemnize their own marriage (C.R.S 14-2-109) in Colorado. They must apply for paper work from the County Courthouse in order to do this. However, friends or relatives can not solemnize their marriage. Out-of-state Clergy need not be registered in Colorado.

So.......it looks like you may have to apply with the county to do this? Anyway, on to your question......

Your wedding would be like any other small wedding.  By the way....small weddings are my absolute FAVORITE!  You have everything you need:  a bride, groom, family and friends.  That's it.

    Ideas would be:

~ I would definitely wear a wedding dress.  Something very low-key, but "bridal."  Here are a couple from David's Bridal that I like:

~ I would have the groom in whatever he is comfortable in.  Some nice pants and a shirt/tie?

~ I would definitely pamper myself.  Go and get a manicure/pedicure (if you like that sort of thing.)  Maybe even get your hair done professionally.

    ~ Have someone take pictures.

~ Clear everything away (magazines...knick knacks) and put out lots of votive candles or tealight candles.

    ~ Have your wedding.

~ Have a reception after!  Whatever you want.  A meal?  Or champagne and dessert?  It's really whatever you want!

    ~ Get a small cake.

Hope this helps.  Good luck and I hope you have a beautiful day!
