Self Confidence is 'confidence in the SELF and not in our body/mind/intellect. True or not?

We simply preach about self confidence. The Self is neither the body, nor the mind or the intellect. Self is the witness of all the phenomena we call as world or creation. Hence confidence in the Self denotes confidence in the Supreme Being and not on this perishable body or monkey mind or wavering intellect. Am i right or wrong?

  1. It is the mind, sure when your self esteem is low you think that you cant do something or cant accept something so your thinking about it, and your using the mind, i beleive this anyway.

  2. Self confidence means believing in himself that I shall be successful and shall not leave the work half complete.  The people who have parents, brothers and sisters and others in the house to look after them and support them in time of need are having more self confidence than those who are left orphans and destitutes.  The man who is getrting success gets more self confidence.

  3. What is this self!!!!!!!!!!!! the self is your mind, heart and body. And confidence is felt by mind.

  4. I think of myself as all of the above.  We use our body/mind/intellect to witness, but our witness is dependent on a supreme being to function properly.

God gave us our bodies to use on an individual basis, but God still supervises and manages us.  Self confidence implies confidence in the individual and confidence in God.

  5. Well not all of us agree that the self is not the body/mind/intellect because when we think of the self we incorporate those aspects (body/mind/intellect ) into the "Supreme Being" image we visualize. Also often when one calls upon self confidence it is not to ponder philosophical dilemmas that require spirituality, but to gain courage for physical or mental acts or choices, because through the preaching we have been conditioned to only use self confidence in time of need not in times of leisure.

  6. Not true at all

You can define self in many ways but its mostly self image whether its the image of your body or the image of your intellect.  "Self" is defined by the user which then defines where that confidence is absorbed from which is usually in their own quality whether it would be physical quality or intellectual.

  7. not sure

  8. Supreme Being? Meaning a God or something? I think not. I believe Self-Confidence is in one's self. Body, Mind, Intellect and all, because if you try your hardest, you should be confident about it all, no matter how good or bad others perceive you!

  9. With words we can assign any meaning we want to them so sure, the word 'Self' can mean what you think it means.

Things begin to not make sense when we use words to understand.

  10. Not true.

"Self" encompasses body, mind, intellectuality and many more. Hence "Self confidence" is confidence of all these only.

  11. You are profoundly utterly obviously & blazingly WRONG.

    The self is the mind.

"Self is the witness of all the phenomena we call ...creation"

WTF!?!   Half of us don't even know when our spouse is cheating.

Self is mind.  The mind makes decisions.  If most the decisions have worked out well OR your mind has a great capacity for denying those that haven't, then you are confident your decisions will be good ones.   And that's self confidence.

And the Supreme Being is neither here nor there.   Believers & Atheists are both capable of self confidence.
