  1. Check out the yellow pages, do a search on google for ma gyms in your area. And just basic search skills, I hope you can do this.

  2. That depends where you live. Our school offers a no nonsense self defense course that focuses on the common threats we face today. There are no belts and the training is hard and realistic. It is for men and women. It focuses on defending yourself and your companions. We call it Urban Defense Tactics.

  3. Do it!  I have taken and used self defense in the past, do not waste time with a martial art, take a private self defense class that is designed for girls, you will learn alot of "cheap" but effective moves!

  4. This may be the perfect answer for you. World class instructors on DVD to learn at your own pace in  your own home with or without a friend. There are many out there but this selection is awesome. check em out.

Hope that helps you (and others too)

  5. Hi there

The best ones are usually run or approved by your local Police force and not your local martial arts schools. They are put together with the intention of teaching the student awareness first and defence second. They are not fitness based so you wouldn't be getting a work out. People often get confused with fitness and martial arts. Although you have to be reasonably fit to do most of the popular martial arts i would only recommend that you take a class if you really want to learn. If you just want to get fit then the gym would be better for you. As boring as it sounds.

    Best wishes
