Question:

Self Shooting a Movie?

Hello! I'm going to be self-shooting a short movie (10-30 minutes). I have an 8 Megapixel Canon camera and will be using that to shoot it. The audio quality doesn't seem too good though, lots of outside noise gets in / static. Any tips to get around that? And what programs do you guys suggest to edit the movie (add music, cut up scenes, add a title screen to the DVD maybe even have that be a short movie loop with music, credits, etc.) Thanks!

  2. If the unwanted noise is regular, e.g. camera noise, you can filter it out using Audacity or Acoustica.  If it's random you're probably not going to be able to remove it.  Since you're using a digital camera rather than a camcorder I doubt if you've got much, if any, control over the audio - the mic will pick up everything.  Is there any way you could record the audio separately and add it later - maybe with an MP3 player?  If you do go that route, make sure you do something like clapping your hands so you can get the audio and video in synch.

I like Sony's Vegas Movie Studio for editing.  It's got multiple audio tracks, so you can mix whatever you've got.
