The past ten years or so, what we've seen is good, unbiased research and data that's spun in publication to look like what the publisher wants it to look like, though if you analyze the data closely, the unbiased numbers are in there. The take-home message is not to stop at the abstract but to read and analyze the entire article. You'll also pick up simple errors that slip through the editorial process, such as specificity and sensitivity numbers that are impossible.
