  1. it is.  cutting etc. is a way to kill the emotional pain.  physical pain is much, much easier to handle.  get help please my daughter is a recovering cutter it is very hard for her.  she's on meds to help but itf things get overwhelming she cuts and her life is a nightmare.  many issues.  the scars left are also a lifetime problem she needs to wear long sleeve shirts because she is literally missing chunks out of her arm.  bad for meeting people or trying to get a job

  2. It can be a disorder of it's own, but can also be a manifestation of another disorder.  Sometimes it can be a coping mechanism, to anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorders, paranoia.  It can also be a symptom of liver diseases, skin disorders, and other physical illnesses.

  3. No its just called being Clumsy

  4. no, although self-harm can be caused by some disorders thats not always the case. some mental disorders such as major depressive disorder, anxiety disorder, and boarderline personality disorder put people at a higher risk for thoughts of self-harming, but no self-harm itself is not a mental disorder and is not always caused by one

  5. I believe it can be a symptom of a mental problem.

There are reasons why people self harm.  It is because of the reasons that is the problem that leads the person to hurt themselves.

I regret that I have hurt myself.  It is hard living with the scars.

  6. I think this may help you: http://www.athealth.com/Consumer/disorde...

I used to cut and I've been cut-free for about 4 years now (not easy.) I have Borderline Personality Disorder so that shines a little light on my situation.

  7. I did a huge report on this!

It can be, if someone is really unhappy with themselves they may start cutting, burning, etc.

They definately need help from a therapist though.

  8. I think its a way to have control, so no not a mental disorder itself but someone with a mental disorder would cut, usually also has low self-esteem.
