Question:

Self- inflating matress?

I just bought a self-inflating Therm- a- Rest mattress. On the instructions, it said to just open the valve and then it will self inflate. And then depending on how tight and for how long the mattress was packed, the mattress will inflate in a different time (the tighter and longer packed, the longer it takes to inflate) so I know the first time will always be the longest. However, the valve has been open for some time now and I don't think it's full size. When I blow by mouth to inflate it, the air just comes out. How do I get it to be fully blown and do I use the mouth only to add the last 1-3 blows into it? And how do I know if my matress is inflating or deflating? How do I make it do one or the other? Because the valve is supposed to be open both for inflating and deflating and closed only to have the air stay in place.

How do I make it inflate to the max and deflate when the valve is supposed to be open for both times?
