Self repair on my Xbox 360 comtroller or not?

Question

Ok so some idiot was pulling on the cord on the top of my 360 controller and now it says its disconnected when i turn it a certain way.(1.Does anybody know what happened and,(2.Can i fix this myself or do i have to buy a brand new controller?

you can just movie it around for a little while until it works

but eventually it will go bad then you will have to buy a new one: ( sry
