Question:

Self service in restaurants?

what do you think of this being implemented into most restaurants/takeaways.

A system where you order your food on a computerised monitor (a bit like Argos for people in the UK) and the order gets automtically sent to the kitchen. you can still pay with cash, it's just that the waiter/waitress won't be taking your order, just serving the food (that's if you're not getting a take-out). Note; full descriptions and ingredients of dishes will be included when making the order (for people that want to have an idea of what it will taste like or people with allergies etc)

What's your opinion? do you like to be served or would you prefer the new system.

  1. if i am going out to eat i want to be served. i want a real person to talk to. all this computer shtuff just irks me. getting real people is getting harder and harder

  2. This system is already available.  Depends on what type place I would be at.  Depends on the speed of service. Many things factor to this. Not something I would prefer. I prefer people who do their jobs and do them well.

  3. There's a place in Iowa called Rubes where you pick out your own steak and cook it.  You can make your own garlic bread and they have salad and soup. Great place and great concept.

  4. we have that.  its called a buffet.  The other system you mentioned...is patented already.

  5. No i dont like that idea, nobody to welcome you ,no thanks

  6. I've seen this on TV recently. You don't even have a waitress to serve the meal, all done by computer. I personally prefer the "old fashioned" way.

  7. I wouldnt like that at all.  I like to be able to speak to a person.

Also, it wouldnt really benefit any restaurants to have it implemented, as they would have to employ the waiting staff anyway and pay out for an expensive computerised system.
