Question:

Self study or not?

Currently I'm in high school, and I'm self studying C++ at home. Is this a good idea even though I'm deciding to take a college class on it later? Should I instead be self studying a programming language that I don't plan to take a class on, or should I continue and solidify that knowledge in college?

  1. Go on with your self study.

Read the forums about C++   [put C++ forum in your browser]

    Analyze program examples

    Make small desktop applications

    And take classes later.

Do not forget. Programming languages evolve and there will be a new version within some time and you have to comprehend that, most of the time without other help than books and examples and forums.

When you have mastered one language it is easier to understand other languages
