I am moving overseas for a two year contract. I love my furnishings and just bought my home. Is it more cost effective to store my belongings (the furniture is paid off if that is important) or should I sell everything I just bought over the past two years and buy new things when I return to the USA. I have researched PODS and it will cost about 140 a month.

  1. We cant determine if it is cost effective unless you tell us how much the furnishings are worth.

Unless you already plan on selling you house you probably want to keep it. You will have a hard time finding similar sizes with similar prices for the house two years from now. Also taxes on the house two years from now will no doubt be greater than the ones you have now.

If you trust your renter than you should be able to have them use the major furniture like tables, chairs, tvs, refrigerators, and beds. It all depends on the renter.

If you sell it you will probably hate your self because you like it and it will not get the value you wanted. And unless the money from the rent exceeds the money need to pay PODS you want to have the renter keep it in the house.
