Question:

Seller backed out from selling the car!! What to do?

I was going to purchase a vehicle that is 3 hours away from my house. I drove to see the vehicle, then the seller agreed to take the car to a mechanic to fix couple things that were wrong with the car, because I did not want to drive a broken car for 160 miles. I wanted to make sure everything was fine before I take the car back to my house. So I paid for the service and then the seller called me and said that his wife does not want to sell the car anymore, and that he is sorry but there is nothing he can do about it, because the title is on her name. This is so wrong... what can I do???

  1. sue both the husband and the wife individually [get separate court dates for both] husband for repair bill on wife's car, and wife for wasted time and travel expenses. do this in your local court system so that even if you lose they have similar time and travel expenditures.

  2. You do not have a reason to sue him. He is not legally obligated to sell the car until the money has been exchenged for the purchase and all necessary paperwork complete. Once a sale is done, then neither party can back out.

He must repay the money for the repairs on the vehicle<which you paid for>, however other than that, there isn't anything you can do except move on to the next car. He isn't obligated to reimburse any of your mileage either, however you can ask. Good luck and I hope this helps.

  3. So you paid the bill to get the car fixed?? Well that can be treated as a partial payment for the car and they MUST pay you back immediately.

  4. You can call and ask him to reimburse you for the expenses of fixing his wife's car and your travel.  If he says no there is little you can do.

If you had looked at the title before putting any cash out you would have seen the car was not his to sell and saved a lot of time and aggravation.

  5. Hunt them down & kill em. No don't do that. Taking them to court as the others have said is the best way to get back at them. Don't get mad, get even.

  6. Wow! What a jerk! You can try to sue them...better you get a couple of thugs with baseball bats and teach him a lesson....

  7. you  should have the couple reimburse you for the repairs. other than that you can't do anything. next time i wouldn't pay for any repairs . unless i saw the title and see who is on it.
