Question:

Selling Lot of Stamps?

I have a large stamp collection filled with FDC's, mint, and used stamps in good condition from all different countries and dating back to the early 1900's. I have no idea how much to sell them for. If I had to estimate I'd say I have anywhere from 5-10,000 stamps. I was considering selling the collection on ebay but I have no idea how much to start the bidding at. Any ideas?

  1. I'd recommend breaking up your collection into smaller pieces.  Group them by country or by date or by something that makes sense.

Go to eBay and look around at the stamp section.  See how other lots are grouped, and what the prices are.  See what prices things are really selling for, and what prices things are remaining unsold for.

Please be honorable with your shipping charges and charge only what it will really cost for the envelope (or box) and the postage.  It's a personal pet peeve of mine to see folks charging a few cents for the item and $9.- to ship a normal-sized book, for example.  If they want $7.50 for the book, they should charge $7.50 for the book.
