Question:

Selling canon EOS IX?

I inherited a camera from my grandfather that i am trying to sell & i have no clue what the value on it currently is. i heard it is pretty obsolete, because of the advantix film or whatever.

i have:

canon eos ix

canon speedlite 380ex

slik ez pod

canon ef 75-300mm f4-5.6is lens

canon remote controller rc-1

+ some accessories, batteries, filters, etc

i have the original receipts, grand total is over $1000. I wouldn't feel bad for selling it all for around half the price, about $500, but honestly like i said, i dont know the value. I wouldn't feel good selling it for much less, but i have no use for it so i dont really have a choice.

also, where is my best bet selling it be? ebay, craigslist? any stores that buy back or where i can at least have someone take a look at it to give me an estimate?

any advice would be appreciated!

  1. Craigslist is the easiest and least expensive ... no charges by them like those found on eBay and you will be selling locally so no shipping costs and the payment will be in cash.

Now the not so good news.

That camera with the accessories you listed would bring from $100 to $200 if it was a 35 mm SLR ... but it is not.

Unless you find a buyer who has a Canon advantix system, you may find you will be lucky to get $50 for it.  You may just want to keep it and use it yourself.

  2. The lens is worth about $100. The remote is worth about $10. The speedlight is $150 new so it's probably worth maybe $100. The camera itself is worth about $75. Altogether you might get $300 for it.

EDIT: I see that the camera is not a 35mm film SLR. In that case it's pretty much worthless.

  3. Your best luck is probably to split up the set -- I would buy the camera and remote from you for $30 or so (depends on condition, I would go up to $50 if you still have the box and instructions). I have no need for the tripod, lens or flash. You would get a bit of money for those on Craigslist or eBay.

As others have pointed out, APS cameras have not held their value. If this were an APS point-and-shoot instead of an SLR, the value would probably be $0.

    Good luck,

    Michael
